Hey Aaron: I was trying to reset a
nib in a standard early doric, the kind with the Eversharp screw out
inner section (like the current interchangeable Pelikan nib system).
However, the nib got hung up and when I looked, there seemed to be a nib
shaped slot cut in the top of the inner section. have you ever seen
anything like that ? I got the feed out with my knock out block but the
nib is so tight I actually broke a tine trying to wiggle it out with my
nib pliers! And its still in there.
I know I have bad hands but haven't broken a nib in about a decade, so
wondering if there's some special trick with these sections.

Those nibs and sections can be
tricky. First off, I would advise against using pliers to pull the
nib unless they are coated with rubber or plastic. For something
like this I use my fingers but a rubber jar opener will serve you well.
It protects the iridium and gives you something to grip. The inner
section part is hard rubber, so apply some heat with a hair dryer for a
few seconds and the nib should wiggle out nicely. For re-tipping
check out Greg Minuskin or John Motishaw. |
